I received a great response from my ask for volunteers to test 4K UHD H265 Rec2020. I don’t think I need any more at this time. Thank you.
The second trailer (Trailer C) for Red Sparrow was released today, and you can find high quality stereo encodes at the Red Sparrow (2018) page.
There have been a few rumours swirling around about the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) would be released tonight on ESPN, but apparently it looks like the third trailer for Black Panther (2018) will show tonight. I expect to have it here before too long. If that is the case, it is expected that the Solo trailer will debut on Good Morning America on Friday, January 12. The last time I checked, this was unconfirmed – and it still is as of this writing. And since Disney, Lucasfilm and Marvel has been consistently supplying 5.1 mixes, I expect those two trailers to have official 5.1 mixes.
That is it for now…
2018! Happy New Year! I hope that you are looking forward to all the things that 2018 will bring. And if you have been waiting for 14 years for a sequel to “The Incredibles”, well, 2018 is already looking like a winner. Incredibles 2 (2018) will be released on June 15, 2018 – and you can check out the first trailer, which is more of a teaser than a trailer at the Incredibles 2 (2018) page.
Since we are starting things off fresh with a new year, I think I will take a few moments to comment on a few of the recurring themes that make their way into my inbox. If you are a new visitor to the site, welcome, I am glad you are here. This should help.
Where did the 3D trailers go?
One of the most asked questions relates to the absence of 3D trailers. My press access only provides 2D trailers. There was a time when a kind soul would send me some 3D content that he, she, or they could get their hands on. This is no longer that case, and therefore 2D is what I am providing. There is concern about the future of 3D in the home anyway. LG and Sony stopped including 3D in their 2017 models – and they were the last to drop support. So if you love 3D at home you may want to stock up on 3D HDTVs. 3D is still being supported on projectors. So with the display segment of the hardware market all but abandoning 3D, it is probably safe to assume that the software side will not be around a whole lot longer. I am sorry to break the bad news to you.
Why don’t you provide 4K trailers?
I have uploaded every 4K trailer that I received, which was the Online Nemesis Trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. You can get it here, all 1.1 GBs of it. The reason I don’t provide 4K is that the studios do not provide 4K. You may be thinking that there are 4K trailers on youtube. Well, I suspect that most of them are up-conversions from a 1920×1080 source. If Sony puts out a 1080p trailer for Into the Spider-Verse on youtube and FilmTrailer4K has 4K on theirs…well, you have to wonder. And by the way here is the official Sony youtube upload, and what appears to be a fake 4K upload. See what I mean? The Sony 1080p looks way better than that 4K upload. Of course, it doesn’t look as good as my encode!
Will you ever get 4K trailers?
This is another excellent question, and I believe the answer is yes – but probably not for a long time. It is rare for a film to be released theatrically in 4K yet alone the trailer. It is still very much a 2K world. A film may be shot digitally in 6K, but the post production is often completed in 2K. Then the movie is released to cinemas in 2K. Until 4K becomes the norm, we will likely remain in a 2K world. Sorry to break that news to you too.
When will you upload the IMAX Countdown to Blade Runner 2049?
I have no idea if I will ever upload another IMAX Countdown trailer. I was getting those from someone who likely had access to some unencrypted materials and did some things that he, she, or they probably should not have been doing. I have not heard from this person in a while – I hope they are ok.
Why are you upmixing stereo trailers when modern receivers can do that?
Another question I frequently receive, and I have been doing a lot of thinking about this lately. When I started the site, the intent was to provide quality materials with 5.1 audio. I provide studio 5.1 mixes when available. Sometimes I get dialogue, music and effects tracks – and I put together an unofficial 5.1 mix. The results have been really good. But when I only receive a stereo master, I need to make a decision. In the beginning, I just did not post the materials or promote the film. Then I tried upmixing. Then I went to Stereo. Now I am back to upmixing with stereo included. Upmixing stereo is not ideal, and really does not provide a lot of value for you – and I can probably do better things with my time. And as has been pointed out by many visitors – a modern receiver will upmix to Dolby Surround or DTS Neo X, or even Auro 3D if you have a really expensive receiver, like this one.?From now on, I am going to move away from upmixing stereo.
Why don’t you encode in DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD?
PCM is lossless and free. DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD require expensive licenses and a Mac.
Why won’t the .mkv file play on the PS4?
The .mkv file will play on the PS4. Your USB needs to be formatted to Fat32 or exFAT. NTFS will not work.
Here is the second trailer for Black Panther (2018), which I think looks (and sounds) really cool. I had a bit of a delay getting this uploaded due to some network issues. The second trailer, with the official studio mix can be found at the Black Panther (2018) page.
You can support this site by shopping through our Amazon Links?on Cyber Monday.
It has been a while since I have updated the site, but I have been working on some content and I should have some things to upload in the coming days, including some requests for IMAX trailers and the 2D version of Batman vs Superman trailer F4. Unfortunately, my time has been stretched a little thin lately, and my wife has decided that we should move – so that is not helping with time management.
Trailer 2 for Finding Dory is now available, and I have a lossless FLAC 5.1 .mkv as well as an AC3 5.1 .mp4. They can be found at the?Finding Dory?page.
Thank you for visiting this site. I launched this site back in July (the 4 month anniversary is today!) and I have received a response that exceeded my expectations. There are people who come to this site whom I now communicate with on a near daily basis. People come here from all over the world to share their love of film, technology, audio, etc. I have learned a lot over the past four months and I am sure the next 4 months will be just as exciting.
I want to give you a bit of information as to where things stand in terms of the current infrastructure. www.5001552.com is currently on a shared hosting platform that has a 20GB storage allocation, and unlimited bandwidth (the amount of data visitors can download). That 20GB allocation is 97% full. The 20GB consists primarily of .mp4 files with AC3 audio. When I started this site, that was my focus since one of my frustrations was being able to obtain trailers or demo files that would play on the PS3. I am do not want to move away from that. (more…)
Your thoughts betray you, father. I feel the good in you…the
There is no conflict.
Well, I feel conflicted at the moment. I think that the Japanese International version of The Force Awakens trailer is really cool, but the best that we have is a low bit rate – 126 kbps, 2 channel audio version that is intended for internet streaming. I made this site because I was tired of such things and I felt that there should be a better way of presenting trailers. On one hand, the Japanese trailer is really cool – perhaps better than the domestic version. But on the other, the quality is truly lacking.
So, what should I do with this trailer? Several have asked if I will be getting it. I did have a version labeled as “International” which is identical to the domestic, except for the different date at the end. That has provided some confusion, to which I feel bad about. That was an international version, but for the UK, not Japan. I tried to “enhance” the 2 channel audio but there is only so much that can be done from a 2 channel source. I certainly could not create anything that sounded better than a Pro-Logic II processor could provide on the fly. So this is my conflict. Do I provide what I feel is sub-standard, or should I just pass on this trailer – saying that it currently does not match the standard of quality that I intend to promote. Does providing this trailer enhance or degrade the site?
This is what I will do. Recognizing that I did have a trailer listed as “international” (it is now “alt”), that there are those who would likely be interested in downloading the trailer instead of streaming it, and since it contains some really cool shots from the film, I am going to add it. I really wish I could provide a better option. ?It can be downloaded from? The Force Awakens?page.
Trailer 2 for Daddy’s Home is now available. It can be found at the?Daddy’s Home?page. I think I prefer trailer 1, but this has some laughs as well. Daddy’s Home opens December 25th.
I also updated the?Spectre?page to include the trailers for all the Daniel Craig Bond films in 5.1 audio. If you are having a Bond-a-thon before the release of Spectre you may want to pick those up.
To follow up on the big event from last week, the release of?The Force Awakens Trailer 3, it appears that it will not be in theaters again this week. The trailer listing from deluxe includes Joy Trailer E, Don Verdean Trailer 1, and?The Night Before?Trailer 4 (which we will likely have soon). There is still no sign of The Force Awakens Trailer 3 coming to theaters. I will keep an eye out to see if it is on schedule for next week in time for Spectre. I know a lot of people are hoping to see it in IMAX when they go see Spectre. And that may provide a more dynamic mix for us as well. Here’s hoping.
I did some further testing, and did not have any disconnected/terminated downloads. If you experience problems downloading, please leave a comment and I will investigate further. Sorry for the inconvenience.
